About the position

The Ultrasound Technician position at the Twenty Nine Palms Naval Base involves providing on-call ultrasound services, requiring a blend of technical skills and patient interaction. The role is essential for performing diagnostic ultrasonic examinations and collaborating with medical staff to ensure accurate patient assessments. This position is open to military veterans and spouses, emphasizing a commitment to supporting those with military backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Correlate the patient's clinical history with the requested examination and obtain results from previous diagnostic tests.
  • Consult with staff physicians regarding the patient's medical history and condition in relation to the ultrasound examination.
  • Recognize normal anatomic variants and changes due to medical procedures.
  • Document arrival, departure, and completed tests as required by MTF policy.
  • Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol.
  • Perform system warm-ups, calibrations, and quality control tasks according to policy.
  • Explain the examination process to patients and assist them in assuming the correct position for the ultrasound.
  • Assist in compiling and archiving records for procedures performed.
  • Observe and report any symptoms affecting the patient's condition to the radiologist.
  • Recognize the need for emergency measures in critical situations and initiate them as necessary.
  • Identify abnormalities during testing and determine the need for additional scans.

Requirements

  • Degree: Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited academic program by CAAHEP.
  • Certification: Certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Experience: Minimum of one year as a sonographer or in a specialty area.
  • Cardiac Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • English Language Requirement: Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to stand/sit for extended periods and perform all required services.
