About the position

The position involves the operation of sonographic equipment and performing diagnostic examinations using sonography. The sonographer will be responsible for conducting clinical assessments and ultrasound examinations, which may include abdominal, vascular, small parts, ob-gyn, and interventional procedures. The role requires following established departmental policies and utilizing cognitive sonographic skills to adapt procedures based on anatomical and pathological information. The sonographer must use independent judgment to differentiate between normal and pathological findings, analyze sonograms, and communicate findings to the Radiologist. Additionally, the sonographer will ensure the safety and comfort of patients, assist with daily operations of the ultrasound department, and maintain ultrasound equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
  • Conducts exams including abdominal, vascular, small parts, ob-gyn, and interventional procedures.
  • Follows established departmental policy.
  • Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate.
  • Uses independent judgment during exams to differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Analyzes sonograms and communicates findings to the Radiologist.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient safety and comfort during examinations.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Assists with daily operations of the ultrasound department.
  • Completes exam tracking and billing accurately on a daily basis.
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, ensuring adequate supplies.
  • Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships with coworkers and providers.
  • Provides direction and instruction to existing personnel and training to new sonographers.
  • Assists in teaching ultrasound technology to new physicians, residents, and fellows.
  • Coordinates with staff to assure appropriate patient care.
  • Reports equipment failures to supervisors.
  • Participates in the maintenance of laboratory accreditation.
  • Monitors all unread studies without notes.

Requirements

  • Must obtain ARDMS certification within 18 months.
  • Prefer one year experience but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • BLS certification.
