About the position

The Ultrasound Technologist PRN at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is responsible for performing a variety of diagnostic medical sonography procedures that provide high-quality exams for interpretation by a Radiologist. This role requires the technologist to set up and assist in invasive procedures when ultrasound is used as a guidance tool, ensuring that all tasks necessary to provide quality patient care are executed effectively. The position emphasizes the importance of cooperation with all associates in the proper conduct of the department, adherence to hospital safety standards, and maintaining ethical and professional relationships with patients and staff alike. In this role, the Ultrasound Technologist will be expected to position and transfer patients for exams, assist physicians in performing invasive procedures, and ensure that all necessary lab work is checked prior to examinations. The technologist will also be responsible for delivering specimens to the appropriate areas of the hospital with the correct paperwork. Practicing sterile techniques to prevent contamination is crucial, as is maintaining adequate records in accordance with department and hospital policies. The technologist will follow the AIDET protocol at all times, which includes acknowledging, introducing, explaining, and thanking patients during their care. The Ultrasound Technologist will also be required to operate the Cerner System proficiently, troubleshoot any issues with orders, and make necessary corrections within their scope of user level. Maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the Ultrasound Department is essential, as is producing quality diagnostic ultrasound images by utilizing proper equipment techniques and technical factors. The role also involves securing and restocking supplies as necessary and performing all ultrasound procedures according to established department policies. The position is PRN, meaning variable shifts are available for pickup, allowing for flexibility in scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic medical sonography procedures providing high quality exams for interpretation by a Radiologist.
  • Set up and assist in invasive procedures when ultrasound is used as a guidance tool.
  • Position and transfer patients for exams.
  • Assist physicians in performing invasive procedures, checking necessary lab work pre-exam and delivering specimens to appropriate areas of the hospital with proper paperwork.
  • Practice sterile technique to prevent contamination.
  • Maintain adequate records per department and hospital policies.
  • Follow AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation and Thank) at all times.
  • Attend a minimum of 50% of scheduled department meetings and be accountable for obtaining information from missed meetings.
  • Operate Cerner System proficiently, troubleshoot problems with orders and make corrections within scope of user level.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of Ultrasound Department.
  • Produce quality diagnostic ultrasound images using proper equipment technique and technical factors.
  • Secure and restock supplies as necessary.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or Graduate of a Technical School
  • Preferred 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Registered as Vascular Technologist (RVT)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Abdominal or OB/GYN (RDMS)
  • Two Additional Registries
