About the position

The Payroll Coordinator at UMN Morris is responsible for managing payroll entry, confirmation, and time and absence activities for over 372 non-student employees. This role also supports the talent acquisition process and performs various finance office duties, including reporting and general ledger work. The position requires a commitment to confidentiality and an understanding of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll entry and maintenance in the HRMS.
  • Create and track Personnel Action Forms (PAF) for position postings and employment changes.
  • Request new hires and employment changes via TeamDynamix (TDX) system.
  • Confirm and reconcile payroll changes and resolve discrepancies.
  • Review bi-weekly payroll abstracts and pre-payroll confirmation reports.
  • Investigate payroll issues and answer employee questions.
  • Assist supervisors in approving hours and run reports to identify errors.
  • Answer questions regarding vacation and sick leave, and make necessary corrections.
  • Support managers in preparing job descriptions and hiring requests.
  • Submit hiring tickets and monitor the hiring process for timely completion.
  • Conduct I-9 employment verification and maintain E-Verify accuracy.
  • Provide onboarding orientation for new non-student employees.
  • Interpret and advise on University work rules and bargaining unit agreements.
  • Support tracking and completion of performance appraisals using the UMN Performance Appraisal Tool.
  • Monitor payroll default accounts and perform necessary corrections.
  • Assist with budgeting and prepare/process budget journal entries.
  • Reconcile General Ledger activity and prepare journal entries as needed.
  • Review and pay sales tax for the Morris campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four years.
  • Demonstrated experience with payroll and/or human resource management systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of University of Minnesota policies and procedures.
  • Experience with University of Minnesota PeopleSoft Human Resources system.
  • Experience with University of Minnesota Enterprise Financial System.
