About the position

The University of Utah Health is seeking a dedicated individual to provide assistive care to patients, facilitating efficient patient care delivery and supporting licensed staff in basic healthcare tasks. This role encompasses both direct patient care and clerical functions, ensuring a high standard of service in a Level 1 Trauma Center known for its excellence in patient experience and medical advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures by recording vital signs and medical history responses.
  • Reports observed patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff.
  • Performs CLIA Waved Lab tests and reports results to appropriate personnel.
  • Executes additional skills such as suture removal, straight catheterization, and injections under supervision.
  • Acts as a chaperone during patient examinations and assists with procedures as needed.
  • Monitors and cleans patient examination rooms and unit areas, reporting on supplies and equipment.
  • Handles telecommunication duties, forwards messages, and schedules appointments under licensed staff direction.
  • Assists with clerical functions including filing medical information and obtaining medical records.
  • Completes mandatory education on infection prevention, safety, and equipment usage as per hospital policies.
  • May perform patient phlebotomy and assist with diagnostic procedures under supervision.
  • Provides educational material and health information to patients and families as needed.
  • May assist with patient transportation to other departments or units.

Requirements

  • Verifiable completion of a state-approved EMT course, one year of Medical Assistant experience, or a Medical Assisting education program.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated proficiency in specific clinic specialty skills within six weeks of hire.
  • Ability to withstand physical demands of the job, including lifting and moving patients.
