About the position
S&B is seeking a mid to senior level design professional to support the West Monroe, LA team. This role involves undertaking a range of design assignments that apply fundamental design techniques in accordance with company and industry standards. The position requires attention to detail and expertise to ensure high-quality designs that meet client specifications. The successful candidate will work under general direction, providing technical guidance to lower-level design personnel and contributing to the success of various projects.
Responsibilities
- Establish design criteria for assigned project phases applying basic engineering principles and material properties.
- Prepare detail and layout drawings and sketches of complex designs requiring theoretical and practical engineering knowledge.
- Determine material needs and perform necessary calculations using accepted formulas and references.
- Review manufacturers' and/or fabricators' prints for conformance with contract specifications.
- Provide design sketches to lower-level design/drafting personnel for preparation of finished design drawings and general layouts.
- Support field assignments and lead field walkdowns as required.
- Check work assigned to lower-level design/drafting personnel.
- Interface with other departments, clients, vendors, and project specialists to support project production.
- Perform related tasks such as writing procedures, compiling engineering data, and estimating.
- Prepare moderately-difficult to difficult engineering and construction drawings utilizing manual and computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.
Requirements
- High school graduate with vocational/technical training in basic drafting technology or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology.
- Demonstrated understanding of design concepts with minimal engineering input.
- Proficiency in utilizing manual and computer-assisted techniques for moderately-difficult design applications.
