About the position

The Underground Mine Supervisor is responsible for overseeing operations at an underground high calcium limestone mine, ensuring production meets customer demands while adhering to safety and quality standards. This role involves leading a team, managing daily production activities, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the highest standard of safety and quality in all aspects of the job and team.
  • Lead and motivate the mine and crushing personnel.
  • Oversee and coordinate daily production activities for the mine and crushing department.
  • Train and develop new and existing employees in job functions and equipment operation.
  • Implement and lead continuous improvement by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices, and processes.
  • Promote a company culture that has high morale and job performance through motivation, establishing goals and providing feedback.
  • Identify and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions for timely resolution.
  • Initiate plans and processes which minimize costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, materials, and capital while continually adapting to short- and long-term production needs.
  • Ensure open lines of communication with all customers, internal and external, to meet their needs in a satisfactory manner.
  • Dedicate time to succession planning and people growth through coaching and training.
  • Address employee issues and provide resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Identify associated risks and implement appropriate controls.
  • Track, record, and maintain official records of work completed as per Federal and State requirements.
  • Responsible for capital expenditure projects and budgeting.
  • Perform other job-related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Five or more years of experience working in an underground mine.
  • Pennsylvania underground mine foreman license, preferred.
  • Pennsylvania underground blaster licenses, preferred.
  • Experience operating and/or leading in a union environment, preferred.
  • Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter and able to take responsibility and initiative.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and coordinate multiple activities and delegate activities to the workforce.
  • Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to work various times during day, night or weekend hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience operating and/or leading in a union environment, preferred.
  • Pennsylvania underground mine foreman license, preferred.
  • Pennsylvania underground blaster licenses, preferred.
