About the position

As the Undersea Sensing and Effects Chief Engineer for Autonomous Undersea Systems (AUS) at General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will play a pivotal role in leading the technical strategies and roadmaps for various programs. This position holds final technical authority over the design, integration, production, and installation processes necessary to meet the functional, behavioral, interface, and operational requirements of the systems we deliver. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our undersea systems are not only effective but also affordable, aligning with the operational concepts and architectures that drive our mission forward. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of undersea effectors and sensing systems, conducting mission analysis, modeling, testing, and operational execution. Your leadership will guide significant programs where you will act as the engineering lead or chief engineer, leveraging your extensive experience in the design, integration, and production of high-reliability systems. You will be expected to travel up to 25% of the time to various locations including Quincy, MA; Taunton, MA; Fairfax, VA; and Greensboro, NC, to ensure project success and stakeholder engagement. Your ability to balance technical and programmatic aspects will be essential as you navigate complex program technical issues. You will also be tasked with presenting and communicating effectively with stakeholders, negotiating solutions that meet challenging customer requirements while fostering a collaborative environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of technical strategies and roadmaps for Autonomous Undersea Systems (AUS).
  • Hold final technical authority over design, integration, production, and installation of undersea systems.
  • Develop effective and affordable operational concepts and architectures for undersea effectors and sensing systems.
  • Conduct undersea mission analysis, modeling, testing, and operational execution.
  • Act as engineering lead/chief engineer on significant programs, ensuring high reliability and assurance in system design and production.
  • Engage in up to 25% travel to various project locations for stakeholder engagement and project oversight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of job-related experience, or 8 years with a Master's degree.
  • Top Secret security clearance required at time of hire.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in designing, specifying requirements, inspecting, verifying, and testing undersea systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of business aspects and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with experience in negotiation.
