About the position

Curative is reimagining health insurance with straightforward pricing and $0 out of pocket costs for baseline visits. We are seeking an Underwriter Analyst to support Curative's pricing and underwriting processes. This entry-level position will interact directly with sales team members, account management, actuaries, and insurance professionals, playing a key role as Curative expands and grows. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to learn and contribute to creating a better healthcare experience for our members by making it easy and intuitive for them to access the care they need. This role is based in Austin, TX. As an Underwriter Analyst, you will be responsible for calculating new business and renewal rates for complex group cases using provided templates, based on the analysis of a group's experience, industry, location, and demographics. You will review new business proposal data for reasonability and accuracy, lead peer reviews to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of quotes, and maintain underwriting department documentation, including guidelines, policies, procedures, and training manuals. Additionally, you will coordinate with the Sales team to ensure timely delivery of quotes and serve as a financial consultant on case-specific requests. You will also develop and monitor account-level claims experience reporting to perform retrospective reviews of rates and achieve profitability targets. Tracking and recommending effective pricing strategies by market and product for leadership will be part of your responsibilities, as well as supporting client contracting and account setup, ensuring that terms align with quoted parameters. Maintaining strong relationships and lines of communication with internal and external stakeholders will be crucial to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate new business and renewal rates for complex group cases using the template provided based on the analysis of a group's experience, industry, location, and demographics.
  • Review new business proposal data for reasonability and accuracy.
  • Lead peer review to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of quotes.
  • Maintain underwriting department documentation, including underwriting guidelines as well as policies and procedures and training manuals.
  • Coordinate with Sales to ensure the timely delivery of quotes and serve as financial consultant on case-specific requests.
  • Develop and monitor account level claims experience reporting to perform retrospective review of rates and achieve profitability targets.
  • Track and recommend effective pricing strategies by market and product for leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, computer science, or a related degree.
  • Experience with Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Analytical skills and creative problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Able to translate and effectively communicate financial models and the results of underwriting analyses.
  • Capable of working on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the insurance industry, data analysis, or data management is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SQL queries is a plus.
