About the position

The Underwriter Assistant - Personal Lines plays a crucial role in the underwriting process by ensuring the accuracy of existing policy information for renewals and supporting the underwriting team through effective communication and documentation. This position is based in Depew, New York, and involves conducting risk assessments and audits for insurance applications, calculating premiums, and generating reports. The Underwriter Assistant must adhere to company policies, industry regulations, and compliance standards in all underwriting activities, ensuring that all processes are executed with precision and care. In this role, the Underwriter Assistant will evaluate and maintain existing policy information to ensure that data is current, accurate, and appropriately priced for renewal. They will respond to client requests and questions, providing information and advice regarding insurance products and underwriting appetite. Effective communication with clients is essential for gathering necessary information, resolving inquiries, and ensuring a smooth underwriting process. The Underwriter Assistant will prepare and organize documentation related to underwriting submissions and policy issuance, assess risks associated with individual insurance applications, and provide support in premium calculations. They will also build and maintain reports on underwriting activities, key performance indicators, and relevant metrics. Conducting internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information related to underwriting activities is another key responsibility. Collaboration with underwriting teams is vital to relay information, coordinate tasks, and contribute to the overall underwriting process. Additionally, the Underwriter Assistant will serve as the key point of contact for customers and agents, delivering excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience for all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and maintains existing policy information to ensure data is current, accurate, and appropriately priced for renewal.
  • Responds to client requests and questions, offering information and advice regarding the insurance products & underwriting appetite.
  • Communicates with clients to gather necessary information, resolves inquiries, and ensures a smooth underwriting process.
  • Prepares and organizes documentation related to underwriting submissions and policy issuance.
  • Assesses risks associated with individual insurance applications, considering both standard and substandard criteria.
  • Provides support in premium calculations, ensuring accurate application of rates based on underwriting guidelines.
  • Builds and maintains reports on underwriting activities, key performance indicators, and relevant metrics.
  • Conducts internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information related to underwriting activities.
  • Ensures adherence to company policies, guidelines, industry regulations, and compliance standards in underwriting activities.
  • Collaborates with underwriting teams to relay information, coordinate tasks, and contribute to the overall underwriting process.
  • Serves as the key point of contact for customers and agents and delivers excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience for them.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in P&C Personal Lines Underwriting.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Risk Management, Actuarial and Business Administration preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
  • Minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses within a designated time period if not currently licensed.
