About the position

CapSpecialty is seeking an Underwriter in our D&O department to ensure profitable results and premium growth by adhering to underwriting guidelines. This role is crucial in maintaining the consistency and accuracy of all work produced. The Underwriter will be responsible for developing and managing broker relationships while marketing CapSpecialty and its products as needed. The position is based in either Chicago, IL or Hartford, CT, and offers a collaborative work environment with opportunities for professional and educational growth. The Underwriter will underwrite and service new and existing accounts within their underwriting authority, responding to inquiries from brokers, insured parties, and management. They will create and maintain underwriting profits while ensuring performance and compliance with established underwriting guidelines. Establishing and maintaining broker relationships through exceptional customer service is a key responsibility, as is keeping abreast of market intelligence and trends in the marketplace. The Underwriter will also participate in marketing initiatives as needed and assist in research projects regarding classes of business, emerging technologies, and unique risks and exposures. Additionally, the Underwriter will evaluate and test system changes as required and contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results that pertain to the specific line of business. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to grow their underwriting expertise in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and service new and existing accounts within underwriting authority, responding to broker, insured and management inquiries.
  • Create and maintain underwriting profits and ensure performance and compliance with underwriting guidelines.

  • Participate in marketing initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years professional liability underwriting experience.
  • Completion of, or continuing work towards, Certification in RPLU, CIC, CPCU, or other approved programs preferred.
