About the position

The Underwriter for Group Benefits at The Hartford will be part of the Priority Accounts Team, focusing on renewals and enforcing business opportunities. This role emphasizes collaboration, innovative thinking, and the development of underwriting skills while working closely with sales teams to negotiate rates and ensure profitability. Responsibilities

• Handle renewal ratings independently and effectively.
• Build formulas and necessary picks using Short Term Disability (STD).
• Establish solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
• Negotiate prices and benefit options with the sales team and brokers.
• Drive and participate in assigned project work and special assignments.
• Ensure timely completion of data integrity reports.
• Demonstrate understanding of pricing elements including risk factors and manual rates.
• Work with pricing tools such as STD, Administrative Service Offerings (ASO), Leave Management, AMT Tool, and SAADD tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of Group Benefits Underwriting or related experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and business communication skills.
• Solid MS Office knowledge, particularly in Microsoft Excel (formulas, sorting, v-lookups, pivot tables).
• Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, analytical, and research skills.
