About the position

The Underwriter/Sr. Underwriter for Latin American & Caribbean Treaty Reinsurance is responsible for managing a complex portfolio of business, ensuring that profitability and expense goals are met. This role involves implementing proper underwriting discipline and guidelines, as well as marketing and servicing both existing and potential clients. The underwriter will engage in general underwriting functions, which include reviewing submissions, conducting pricing analyses, setting terms and conditions, and authorizing quotes, binders, and invoices. In addition to these responsibilities, the underwriter will collaborate with the Actuarial and Catastrophe Modeling teams to obtain necessary input for pricing specific accounts. They will also liaise with the Claims Department to address any claims activity and market concerns that could impact profitability. Compliance with internal audit procedures and adherence to all underwriting and administrative guidelines is essential. Marketing duties include attending client and broker meetings, social events, and maintaining regular communication with key brokers to discuss production and service matters. The underwriter must stay informed about major industry issues and developments and provide specific reports as required by senior staff. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall objectives of the underwriting team.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance with underwriting guidelines, systems and procedures
  • General underwriting functions including underwriting submission review, pricing analysis, setting of terms and conditions, and quote/binder/invoice authorizations
  • Seek input from Actuarial & Cat Modelling for pricing of specific accounts, as required
  • Liaise with the Claims Department on any specific claims activity and overall market claims concerns
  • Achieve compliance with all required underwriting and administrative guidelines
  • Attend assigned client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners and other social outings as applicable
  • Meet with key brokers regularly to discuss production, service and other topics relative to division operations
  • Follow all treaty reinsurance protocols, as required
  • Stay current with respect to major industry issues and developments
  • Provide specific reports as needed by senior staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Solid Writing and Communication Skills
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • 3+ years underwriting experience
  • CPCU, ARe and/or other professional designations preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Willingness to travel
