About the position

The Underwriter-Supervisor Placement Team at NFP is a pivotal role that combines underwriting expertise with relationship management. This position is designed for an individual who can provide comprehensive underwriting support to Partners Financial firms while fostering strong connections with both internal and external customers. The Underwriter will leverage their knowledge to effectively communicate underwriting decisions to carriers and assist firms in presenting their cases in the best possible light. This role is not just about numbers; it’s about understanding the nuances of underwriting and the importance of building trust and rapport with partners. In this position, the Underwriter will be responsible for delivering value-added services to firms, which includes responding promptly to inquiries, providing written underwriting opinions, and assisting in negotiations. The Underwriter will also play a crucial role in communicating the underwriting guidelines and practices of various carriers to the firms, ensuring that they are well-informed and equipped to make the best decisions. Additionally, the Underwriter will consult with field underwriters and home office underwriters to gather necessary information that will help secure favorable underwriting offers. This role will also involve representing Partners Financial at industry meetings and conferences, showcasing the company’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and teamwork. The Underwriter will be expected to travel to firms approximately 5-6 times a year, emphasizing the importance of face-to-face interactions in building and maintaining relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Provide value-added services to firms by responding promptly to telephone inquiries and written requests for underwriting opinions.
  • Assist with negotiations to secure favorable underwriting offers.
  • Communicate information regarding carriers' underwriting guidelines, niches, and practices to firms.
  • Consult with field underwriters, principals, and home office underwriters to gather additional information.
  • Present at Partners Financial study groups, industry meetings, and conferences.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, customer/client focus, and teamwork in all interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical and financial underwriting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to initiate and enhance relationships with management, sales professionals, customers, and vendors.
