About the position

The Underwriter position at Envision Credit Union is primarily focused on providing exceptional service to members while evaluating credit applications and assessing creditworthiness. The role involves collaborating with Member Service Advisors and loan processors to enhance the quality and volume of loan business, ensuring compliance with credit policies and regulations. The Underwriter will also provide training and support to front-line staff, participate in special projects, and maintain strong relationships with members and staff alike.

Responsibilities

  • Provides exceptional member service to all internal, external, and potential credit union members.
  • Analyzes credit applications in an efficient and timely manner in compliance with credit policy.
  • Assesses credit worthiness of members and potential members based on information from credit applications and credit bureau reports.
  • Develops and maintains positive business relationships with processors and other staff through daily conversation.
  • Provides lending expertise, underwriting and other resources as needed for all credit union financial centers during operational hours and for special marketing events.
  • Provides feedback, coaching and mentoring to face to face member contact staff.
  • Assists all front-line staff involved with automobile or other consumer loans to close approved loans and tracks results.
  • Performs lending quality control functions.
  • Participates in updating and maintaining loan procedures.
  • Provides training and mentoring for front line staff.
  • Cross trains on Mortgage Underwriting.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Follows appropriate credit union regulatory and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional and persuasive communication and negotiating skills with ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid history of lending knowledge and experience.
  • Skilled in creating solutions for members' financial challenges within credit union policies and procedures.
  • Good judgment and common sense.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in sensitive areas.
  • Patience, maturity, diplomacy, and expertise to serve as a resource to members and front-line staff.
  • Goal and detail oriented.
  • Listening, oral, and written communications, particularly in sensitive situations.
  • A college degree with a minimum five (5) years lending experience, with underwriting experience desired; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
