About the position

Breckenridge Insurance has an exciting career opportunity for an Underwriter. The Underwriter is responsible for working with wholesale and/or retail agents and carriers to obtain specialized insurance coverage for insureds. The Underwriter will meet growth, profit, and production initiatives by developing positive and productive business relationships with retail agents, producers, carriers, co-workers, and others. Breckenridge Insurance, an Accretive company, offers ready access to a team of collaborative experts that solve problems for independent agents and brokers nationally. We are equally committed to our global carrier partners and sound underwriting practices to deliver competitive, smart coverage solutions. Our team is extremely specialized, passionate, and highly invested in each one of our partnerships with insurance agents, brokers, and carriers. If you're interested in a refreshing, bureaucracy-free environment where we celebrate and recognize diverse employees, look no further. In this role, you will manage a book of new and renewal accounts within your assigned territory by evaluating the viability of accounts through opportunity assessment and requesting information from retail agents as needed to ensure a thorough and accurate review of accounts. You will underwrite accounts based on designated contract authorities and/or submit risks to carriers to consider risks outside of authority. Additionally, you will review requests to bind coverage to ensure accuracy before processing and set and attain goals for book management including production, agency visits, product updates, collection issues, hit ratios, legal environment, and market changes. You will also manage and cultivate existing relationships with business partners (retailer and carrier based) to secure and expand recurring revenue streams. Using underwriting discipline, you will manage loss ratios based on carrier expectations and provide timely and accurate monthly and quarterly forecasting to management. Participation in and support of an interdependent cross-sell environment is also expected. You will provide effective communication, supervision, and development of support staff, including performance reviews and salary recommendations, and participate in recruiting efforts of personnel such as new underwriters and support staff. Your role will involve managing the day-to-day efforts of support staff and ensuring smooth functioning, cohesive production units, including reviewing and approving expenses for direct reports. You will implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization and effectively offer solutions to business challenges inside your area of focus. Maintaining increasing knowledge of insurance industry markets, products, and legal environments through continuing education, seminars, and self-study will be essential to provide value-added service to producers. Participation in industry trade association events such as Target Markets, NAPSLO, AAMGO, PLUS, etc., will also be part of your responsibilities.
