About the position

The Underwriting Affairs Manager at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is a strategic role focused on enhancing underwriting processes across multiple product lines. This position serves as the global point-of-contact and subject matter expert, ensuring consistency in underwriting workflows and promoting operational efficiencies. The role involves collaboration with various teams, including Underwriting, Operations, and IT, to align processes and implement necessary changes resulting from system updates.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise between Underwriting, Operations, and IT teams to drive underwriting business needs throughout the organization's underwriting process and systems.
  • Work with stakeholders across all functions to ensure process alignment with the rest of the organization.
  • Identify and promote transition of tasks from underwriting to external partners to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Engage with Operations to implement and communicate appropriate underwriting process changes resulting from system changes.
  • Partner with the enterprise reporting team to identify and implement reporting efficiencies.
  • Lead the team that assists in the vetting of new underwriting initiatives, products, and process differences with the Chief Underwriting teams, Lines of Business, and Underwriters.
  • Maintain and enhance the Forms Library across all product lines.
  • Act as the point of contact for Internal Audit.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the global property casualty insurance industry, preferably in underwriting or operations.
  • 2+ years of management experience required.
  • Excellent project management skills to prioritize and manage resources for multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task while balancing diverse priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Adept at rapidly responding to changes in priorities and deadlines.
