About the position

As an Underwriting Assistant at AXA XL, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Underwriting team by acting as the owner and principal facilitator of assigned accounts. This position involves performing front-to-end activities throughout the life-cycle of renewal and prospect accounts, from submission to expiration, under the oversight of Underwriters. You will be responsible for pre-underwriting tasks, evaluating risks, and ensuring the completeness of the underwriting package before it is reviewed by an Underwriter. This includes direct communication with Brokers to collect necessary account and insured information for risk analysis. In this role, you will apply your knowledge of specific product underwriting rules and guidelines to support the pre-analysis of submissions, preparing them for further analysis during the quoting stage. You will also develop initial pricing, basic coverage structuring, and create quotation and binder packages on behalf of the Underwriter. Collaboration is key, as you will work effectively with Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, and various internal units within AXA XL to manage the status and workflow of multiple tasks and accounts. Your responsibilities will also include communicating account statuses to ensure the completion of outstanding subjectivities needed for policy issuance and premium collection. You will manage the workflow of multiple tasks while maintaining a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, and AXA XL's internal network. Effective communication, both verbal and written, with internal and external contacts across different time zones and cultures will be essential to meet client expectations and provide a high level of service.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-underwrites, evaluates risk, and assesses completeness of the underwriting package before underwriter review.
  • Communicate directly with Brokers on behalf of the Underwriters to collect account and insured information necessary for risk analysis.
  • Perform and apply knowledge of line of business specific product underwriting rules and/or guidelines for pre-analysis support of submission in preparation for further analysis for quoting stage.
  • Develop initial pricing, basic coverage structuring, quotation, and binder packages of the risk on behalf of the Underwriter.
  • Collaborate effectively with Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, and internal units within XL Catlin to manage the status and workflow of multiple tasks and accounts.
  • Communicate account status to ensure completion of outstanding subjectivities needed to execute policy issuance and premium collection as part of bound accounts.
  • Calculate base rating and apply experience modifications as part of underwriting package completed by Underwriting Support Unit for Underwriter review.
  • Manage the workflow of multiple tasks and maintain a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, AXA XL internal network, and Fronting Partners around the world.
  • Collaborate and correspond verbally and in written format with internal and external contacts across the world, keeping in mind differences in local language, time zones, and good local standard.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Adept interpersonal skills to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups.
  • Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results.
