About the position

As a Surety Underwriting Assistant at RLI, you will support the underwriting team in achieving their premium production goals and service objectives for producer partners. This role involves assisting with various underwriting processes, marketing efforts, and ensuring smooth operations for agents and brokers. You will be responsible for creating bond documents, managing bond transactions, and maintaining underwriting files, all while contributing to the overall efficiency of the Surety Department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for national underwriting teams in the underwriting process.
  • Assist with marketing and sales efforts for sales regions.
  • Support key agents and brokers with specialty programs and ensure ease of business transactions.
  • Create and issue new and renewal bond documents, updating systems of record accordingly.
  • Assist with bond term transactions, including endorsements, riders, and cancellations.
  • Research and resolve billing and account discrepancies.
  • Maintain electronic underwriting files and support underwriting audits.
  • Identify and implement improvements to key systems and workflows within the Surety Department.
  • Exercise limited lines of authority for underwriting new and renewal accounts.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree preferred; high school education or equivalent required.
  • More than 4 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Experience in Surety, Insurance, or Financial Services preferred.
  • Ability to interact professionally in a high-performance team environment.
  • Effective communication skills across various mediums (phone, email, in person).
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while producing quality work.
  • Capability to develop and maintain procedures and multi-task effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Surety, Insurance, or Financial Services.
  • Familiarity with underwriting processes and systems.
