About the position

The Underwriting Manager for Wholesale Excess at AXA XL plays a crucial role in achieving the underwriting objectives of the North Central Region. This position involves significant interaction with a team of underwriters, clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders. The manager will oversee a sizable renewal portfolio while also securing new business opportunities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality service that enhances the AXA XL brand image.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a team of underwriters to win new business and retain existing customers.
  • Oversee referrals and monitor the health of the portfolio by tracking losses, retention, and pipeline management.
  • Evaluate appropriate risk premiums based on rules, guidelines, and appetite to ensure a diverse and profitable portfolio.
  • Initiate opportunities for cross-selling alongside peer products and other AXA offerings with a client-first mindset.
  • Control the timely implementation of new and renewal accounts according to quality standards, including policy audits and invoice issuance.
  • Monitor premium collection according to standards and take necessary actions.
  • Support and develop new product expansion as needed, collaborating with peer leaders and the Head of Wholesale Excess.
  • Advise, assist, and service clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure client satisfaction and timely responses to queries.
  • Ensure timely implementation of policy endorsements and proper hand-over for implementation.
  • Develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies of less experienced colleagues.

Requirements

  • Extensive underwriting and/or equivalent broker experience with thorough knowledge of underwriting, rating methodologies, forms, and business processes.
  • Previous underwriting management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Good understanding of the Wholesale Excess Market and global and domestic property underwriting.
  • Large account experience and HPR background is a plus.
  • Underwriting or loss control experience within property, marine, and construction disciplines.
  • Experience with Aon, Marsh, Willis, Lockton, AJ Gallagher within the North Central region Wholesale Broker Networks.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; professional designations such as CPCU or ARM are a plus.

  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, producers, and trading partners.
