About the position

The position is an entry-level underwriting role at Travelers, designed for individuals to learn about underwriting philosophy, business unit products, and strategies while actively participating in a structured training program. The role involves handling renewal business under supervision and gradually developing skills to underwrite new business. The incumbent will engage in risk assessment, relationship building, and consultative sales, all while taking initiative for personal development.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites and assesses risk for less complex accounts under direct supervision.
  • Establishes effective relationships with customers, agents, and brokers.
  • Develops consultative sales and marketing skills through interactions with agents/brokers.
  • Enhances negotiation skills through coaching and interactions with agents/brokers.
  • Manages desk effectively and assumes a territory as skills develop.
  • Collaborates with others on all aspects of the job and seeks enterprise-wide solutions.
  • Takes initiative for personal development and seeks learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or one year of applicable business experience required.
  • Educational background in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related fields preferred.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn the property & casualty industry.
  • Uses knowledge of internal and external factors impacting the industry to make decisions.
  • Identifies problems or opportunities and analyzes information to support decision making.
  • Builds and maintains productive relationships to meet goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in sales or marketing roles.
  • Familiarity with financial information and expense management principles.
