About the position

The Underwriting Technician position at Sompo International is a vital role within the Middle Market Underwriting Support team, focusing on assisting underwriters with various tasks related to submissions, rating accounts, and maintaining underwriting files. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to a collaborative work environment while developing their careers in the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters with submissions, rating accounts, drafting quotes, binders, policies, and endorsements.
  • Code, bill, register, process, and distribute insurance invoices, binders, policies, and endorsements within established processing standards.
  • Prepare and maintain underwriting files, ensuring file integrity.
  • Contact external distribution partners for required or outstanding underwriting information pre or post binding.
  • Review and analyze facultative reinsurance certificates as determined by management.
  • Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and resolve premium discrepancies in partnership with accounting to settle overdue premiums.
  • Implement and maintain a field service reputation recognized as superior in the industry.

Requirements

  • 2 years of underwriting support experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas to drive business.
  • Technical capabilities such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Undergraduate degree or demonstrable industry experience.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand terminology, coverages, and appetite for specific industry groups and customers.
