About the position

As the Union Accounting Manager at Compass Group, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the Union Accounting team, ensuring compliance with labor agreements and the accurate calculation and remittance of benefit contributions and union dues. This position is based at our North America headquarters in Charlotte, NC, and offers a hybrid work schedule along with complimentary meals. Your primary responsibility will be to lead a team of approximately 6-7 Union Accountants/Analysts, ensuring that they interpret the provisions of labor agreements correctly and adhere to the terms outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). You will be tasked with maintaining high standards of accuracy and timeliness in all accounting processes, while also ensuring that customer service expectations are met. In this role, you will conduct audits of previous payments, analyze trends, and identify gaps in processes that may lead to non-compliance. You will also be responsible for reviewing compliance audits conducted by external vendors and tracking metrics related to these findings. Your analytical skills will be crucial as you assist in resolving complex issues related to research, reconciliation, and various types of union payments, including dues and benefits. You will be expected to interpret labor agreements to determine correct payable amounts and payment schedules, ensuring that your team meets departmental standards for accuracy and customer service. Additionally, you will play a key role in the implementation and documentation of new policies and procedures, establishing metrics to measure performance for each team member. Regular communication with Labor Relations regarding CBA verbiage issues and supporting them with ad hoc analysis requests will also be part of your responsibilities. You will conduct yearly performance appraisals for your team members and represent the department in project meetings as necessary. Continuous improvement of departmental procedures to enhance productivity and accuracy will be a focus, as will fostering open communication with team members and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure overall success.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of approximately 6-7 Union Accountants/Analysts.
  • Review audits of previous payments and report on audit result trends, gaps in processes and non-compliance to processes.
  • Conduct random monthly reviews of Compliance team's audit disputes with external vendors and track metrics on findings.
  • Perform random reviews of MEPP discrepancy reports and track metrics on findings.
  • Assist in the resolution of complex problems relating to research, reconciliation, and union payments of all types (dues and benefits).
  • Analyze and interpret labor agreements (CBA's) to determine correct payable amounts and payment timetables.
  • Review contribution calculations monthly and post to SAP.
  • Ensure team meets departmental standards for accuracy, timeliness, and customer service.
  • Provide necessary training and development for team members to ensure success.
  • Play a key role in the implementation and documentation of new policies & procedures.
  • Establish and maintain metrics to measure performance for each team member.
  • Complete ABS review each period for the team.
  • Liaise with Labor Relations on CBA verbiage issues.
  • Support Labor Relations with ad hoc analysis requests.
  • Conduct yearly performance appraisals of team members.
  • Represent the department in project meetings as needed.
  • Consistently work to improve department procedures to enhance productivity and accuracy.
  • Establish and develop open communication and interaction with the team, field associates, regional accountants, and other internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree required, Accounting or Finance
  • Two years Accounts Payable experience
  • One year supervision/managerial experience
  • Proficient in Excel and working knowledge of Access
  • Exceptional customer service skills and 'can-do' attitude
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
