About the position

As a CBRE Union Assistant Chief Engineer, you will play a crucial role in guiding operations, managing vendors, and overseeing subcontractors to ensure the maintenance and repair of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. This position is integral to the Engineering and Technical Services job function, where you will be responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on various equipment and systems. Your expertise will help maintain operational efficiency and safety standards within the facility. In this role, you will be expected to follow all relevant codes, regulations, and company directives related to operations and safety. You will manage shift operations, assign work orders, and provide training to coworkers and subcontractors to ensure that all tasks are completed effectively. A key responsibility will be to review monthly tenant service request summaries to identify and rectify recurrent operational problems, thereby enhancing service delivery. You will also develop a preventive maintenance program for machinery and systems, ensuring that all equipment operates within normal parameters. This includes maintaining an inventory of supplies and tools, ordering necessary materials, and scheduling preventive maintenance to minimize business interruptions. In emergency situations, you will respond promptly and may request additional help as needed. Your role will require you to apply advanced knowledge to seek and develop innovative methods for accomplishing departmental objectives. You will be expected to showcase your expertise in your job discipline while also possessing in-depth knowledge of other disciplines within the organization. Coaching others to develop their skills and knowledge will be a part of your responsibilities, as will leading by example and modeling behaviors consistent with CBRE's RISE values. Additionally, you will impact the achievement of customer, operational, project, or service objectives across multi-discipline teams. Your work will be guided by functional policies that influence the design of procedures and policies, and you will contribute to new products, processes, standards, and operational plans to support functional goals. Effective communication will be essential, as you will need to convey complex ideas and influence others, including senior-level stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Guide operations, vendors, and subcontractors to maintain and repair buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
  • Manage shift operations and assign work orders to coworkers and subcontractors.
  • Provide training to coworkers and subcontractors.
  • Review monthly tenant service request summaries to identify and correct recurrent operational problems.
  • Develop a preventive maintenance program for machinery and systems.
  • Inspect systems to ensure operation within normal parameters.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and tools, ordering necessary materials to complete tasks.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance and downtime to minimize business interruption.
  • Perform repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance, completing maintenance and repair records as required.
  • Respond timely to emergency situations, requesting extra help as needed.
  • Apply advanced knowledge to seek and develop new methods for accomplishing departmental objectives.
  • Showcase expertise in own job discipline and in-depth knowledge of other job disciplines within the organization.
  • Coach others to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in most or all areas within the function.
  • Lead by example and model behaviors consistent with CBRE RISE values.
  • Communicate difficult and complex ideas with the ability to influence others.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of job-related experience.
  • Universal CFC certification is required.
  • Certifications/licenses required by local or state jurisdictions.
  • Prior shift leader or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Meet the physical requirements of the role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Expert organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
  • Highly sophisticated math skills, including the ability to calculate complex figures such as percentages and fractions.
