About the position

The Union Payroll Specialist at Hoffman Construction Company is responsible for processing high-volume weekly payroll for international and some domestic employees within the Craft Payroll department. This full-cycle payroll position requires proficiency in JD Edwards software and involves maintaining employee records, ensuring compliance with payroll laws, and addressing payroll inquiries. The role emphasizes confidentiality and accuracy in payroll operations, contributing to the overall efficiency of the payroll process.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the processing of weekly multistate confidential craft payroll for both international and some domestic payrolls.
  • Support the setup of all new hires in Oracle and E1.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Support the month-end closing for all payroll-related accounts to ensure quarterly and annual payroll tax returns and other statutory reporting requirements can be processed to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure accuracy of employee union benefits, garnishments, and other deductions.
  • Research payroll issues/discrepancies and process necessary corrections.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Receive and respond to payroll inquiries from current and former employees.
  • Assist in payroll audits as needed.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) years' working experience with non-union or union full cycle payroll required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Teams).
  • Experience utilizing Excel for reporting, including pivot tables and V-lookups, highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge in JD Edwards or similar ERP platform preferred.
  • Understanding of common payroll systems such as Oracle, ADP, etc.
  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude through high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Union payroll experience strongly preferred.
  • In-house payroll processing experience preferred.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
  • Associate's degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience preferred.
