About the position

The Assistant Shore Excursions Manager is a hybrid position that combines remote work with on-site responsibilities in Milwaukee, WI. This role is integral to the coordination of shore excursion activities on the Great Lakes, assisting the Director of Land Operations. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple critical tasks simultaneously, and possess strong decision-making skills. The company is looking for someone who is flexible, stress-resistant, and committed to teamwork, ready to tackle challenges and ensure the success of shore excursion operations. In this position, you will be responsible for liaising with local suppliers to finalize reservations for transportation, accommodations, and attractions in port cities. You will create daily itineraries for bus drivers, tour guides, and dock staff, ensuring smooth operations on shore excursion days. The role requires you to be on-site in Milwaukee or Chicago during these events to oversee staff procedures and greet ships. Occasional travel to port cities for site visits and vendor meetings is also expected. The Assistant Shore Excursions Manager must demonstrate professionalism and grace when handling difficult situations or guests, providing timely solutions. You will play a crucial role in enhancing guest safety and security, organizing disembarkation processes, and supporting the tour guide team with necessary training and information. This position demands a self-starter who can juggle various projects while maintaining a high standard of precision and creativity.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with local suppliers to make and finalize reservations for buses, hotels, restaurants, and attractions in port cities on the Great Lakes.
  • Create daily itineraries for bus drivers, tour guides, and dock staff to ensure shore excursion and turnaround day success.
  • Coordinate shore excursion activities to maximize revenue.
  • Be on-site in Milwaukee or Chicago for shore excursion days to greet ships and oversee staff procedures.
  • Travel to port cities on the Great Lakes for site visits and vendor meetings as needed throughout the year.
  • Handle difficult guests and situations with professionalism and provide timely solutions.
  • Organize guest and crew disembarkation in conjunction with relevant parties to ensure proper execution.
  • Provide guidance and training to the tour guide team, supporting them with guest queries, tour bookings, and port information.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in event or convention planning, preferably with shore excursion experience.
  • Fluent in English with excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency in French is a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work as a committed team player.
  • Proficient in PC-based databases, spreadsheets, and word processing systems.
  • Ability to handle confidential communications effectively.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, especially during the high season.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the shore excursion industry or shipboard experience is preferred.
  • Creativity and a strong attention to detail are advantageous.
