About the position

The position involves joining a team of multi-discipline engineers at ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex, focusing on maintaining and advancing the safety, operability, sustainability, and profitability of diverse manufacturing operations. The role includes addressing real-life challenges in process control applications and operator interfaces, providing support during project development, installation, and startup, and collaborating with global teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Join and contribute efforts of a highly driven team of applications engineers to increase process safety, operability, and profitability.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and operations of grassroots or revamped facilities.
  • Support technologies ranging from basic regulatory control to real-time optimization.
  • Work closely with manufacturing site personnel, process engineers, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities and define project scope, cost benefits, and schedules.
  • Provide active technical leadership through mentoring and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Be available for 24/7 off-hours callouts to address issues impacting unit production.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemical Engineering preferred; MS or PhD is an advantage.
  • Greater than 7 years of practical experience in control automation, abnormal event detection, modeling, and optimization applications in refining or petrochemical manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of chemical engineering principles, process dynamics, and feedback control in continuous or batch operations.
  • Experience with at least one industrial DCS or SCADA platform.
  • Capability with software for advanced control, simulation, modeling, or optimization.
  • Skills in programming languages and data analytics tools.

  • Refining experience preferred but chemicals process background will be considered.
  • Demonstrated innovative thinking and strong initiative.
  • Exemplary communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across diverse teams.
