Akron General's 52A Surgical Unit is a post-surgical unit that specializes in general surgeries, such as bariatric gastric sleeve, Roux-en-Y, cholecystectomy, thyroidectomy, urostomy, and more. 52A is the primary trauma floor for patients not requiring intensive care, and these are high acuity patients coming from the PACU and ED who require close monitoring and mobilization. A caregiver in this position works 3:00pm - 11:30pm.

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties.
  • Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.
  • Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
  • Troubleshoot equipment.
  • Respond to patient call lights.
  • Keep nursing stations clean and organized.
  • Complete mandatory education and training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role.
