About the position
The Unit Coordinator for the Nursing Department at Rockford Center is responsible for organizing and managing various clerical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations within the unit. This role involves assisting with patient flow, maintaining records, and supporting nursing staff in providing care to psychiatric patients. The position requires effective communication, time management, and the ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Organizes assigned activities to complete them in a timely fashion.
- Assists in organizing the unit and nurses' stations.
- Helps direct patient flow and retrieves charts from physician's offices.
- Tracks patient lab work and monitors admission lab turnaround.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize responsibilities and work on all units as necessary.
- Follows established guidelines, policies, and procedures from various regulatory sources.
- Performs routine clerical duties in support of staff and patients, ensuring smooth operations of unit business.
- Processes documents and records, extracts and compiles files, and responds to inquiries concerning services and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience working with a psychiatric patient population.
- Previous secretarial experience preferred.
- Knowledge of interventional and administrative duties necessary to support nursing and patient care.
- Ability to communicate orally, telephonically, and in writing.
- Working knowledge of computer systems and various software.
- Must maintain certifications in CPR, Verbal De-Escalation, and Handle With Care.
- Good documentation, organization, and time management skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with dual diagnosis/chemical dependency/mental health patients.
- Knowledge of age-specific patient issues, limit setting, and behavior management.
- Crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
