About the position

The position involves assisting the Director of Nursing Services in managing the daily operations of nursing activities in a long-term care facility. This includes developing, maintaining, and updating policies and procedures that govern nursing services. The role requires oversight of nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established procedures and the interpretation of policies to staff, residents, and visitors. Administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, and evaluations are also part of the job. Active participation in various committee meetings is expected, along with making recommendations regarding equipment needs and maintaining adequate stock levels of medications and supplies. The position also involves assisting in the development of a preventive maintenance program and ensuring care plan duties are performed according to established guidelines. Confidentiality of resident care information is paramount, and the role may include additional nursing care duties as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing day-to-day nursing activities.
  • Oversee compliance of nursing personnel with procedures in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Perform administrative duties including completing medical forms, reports, and evaluations.
  • Participate in various committee meetings and implement recommendations as instructed by the Director.
  • Make recommendations regarding equipment needs for the nursing services department.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of medications and medical supplies.
  • Assist in developing a preventive maintenance program for nursing service equipment.
  • Ensure care plan and assessment duties are performed according to the Unit Manager job description.
  • Assist the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator with MDS planning and implementation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care information and report unauthorized disclosures.
  • Perform other work-related nursing care duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university or graduation from an approved LPN/LVN program.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience in a healthcare facility.
  • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • Current, unencumbered RN/LPN license to practice in the state.
  • BLS/CPR and AED Program Certification required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for residents.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, and the public.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Leadership and supervisory ability with a willingness to work harmoniously with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret care programs and policies.
  • Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm for handling difficult residents.
  • Willingness to seek out and incorporate new nursing methods and principles.
  • Ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and meet physical and sensory requirements.
