About the position

The position involves greeting patients, visitors, and guests to the unit, communicating information to the appropriate staff and department, and entering information into the computer. The role is primarily based in a Nurse's Station or light traffic area, with mostly sedentary work. The employee will create a positive image of the nursing unit by greeting patients and visitors, answering phones and call lights in a timely and pleasant manner, and assisting staff in serving the needs of families and patients. The employee will also aid the director in keeping the unit and materials well organized and follow the MUSC Standards of Behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors, and guests to the unit.
  • Communicate messages and information to appropriate staff and department.
  • Order supplies.
  • Assist staff in serving the needs of families and patients.
  • Aid the director in keeping the unit and materials well organized.
  • Follow the MUSC Standards of Behaviors.
  • Perform miscellaneous and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year office experience with customer contact preferred in a hospital or medical setting.
  • Basic computer skills are helpful.
  • Successful completion of medical terminology must be obtained within one year.
