About the position

The Unit Secretary/Behavioral Service Technician at St. Mary's Health System plays a crucial role in the patient care team, contributing significantly to the comfort and well-being of patients during their stay. This position involves providing both direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The individual in this role is responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the unit and the delivery of high-quality care to patients. Key responsibilities include performing assigned treatments and procedures in accordance with facility policies and protocols, assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, ambulation, and other daily activities. The Unit Secretary/Behavioral Service Technician actively participates in the established plan of care, responding promptly to patient needs and maintaining a clean and safe environment by adhering to infection control principles. Accurate documentation of vital signs, weights, and care provided is essential, as is the maintenance of an adequate inventory of supplies and coordination of patient activities. In addition to patient care, the role requires administrative tasks such as scheduling, filing, and managing documentation. The Unit Secretary/Behavioral Service Technician must also tabulate statistics for end-of-month reporting, ensuring that all records are up-to-date and accurate. This position is vital for the overall functioning of the unit and requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who is committed to providing exceptional care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned treatments, procedures, and other related tasks according to facility policies/protocols and within the scope of the CNA position.
  • Assists with personal hygiene, toileting, ambulation, mobility, positioning, mealtime, oral care, and foley drains/ostomies, as needed, utilizing adaptive equipment as indicated.
  • Actively participates in the established plan of care.
  • Responds promptly to call lights, provides transport, maintains a clean environment, and follows principles of infection control.
  • Accurately documents on graphic and flow sheets in computer charting: vital signs, weights, and ADL care provided.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies, and par levels and fills out purchase orders.
  • Tabulates statistics for end-of-month reporting.
  • Accurately performs scheduling and coordination of patient/resident activities.
  • Faxes, copies, and files documents as requested and required.

Requirements

  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained before completion of orientation.
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • 1 Year experience in behavioral health services.
  • College training in mental health technology, a behavioral science, social work, rehabilitation therapy, or its equivalent may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling six (6) month of experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • Completion of a mental health training certificate program may be substituted for six (6) months.
