About the position

The Unit Secretary/Coordinator plays a vital role in providing clerical support and coordinating activities within the unit at Danbury Hospital. This position requires effective communication with all disciplines involved in patient care, ensuring that the unit operates smoothly and efficiently. The Unit Secretary/Coordinator assists with various patient care activities and is responsible for managing the clerical needs of the unit, which includes answering phones, interacting with visitors, patients, and staff members in a courteous manner, and maintaining patient records with confidentiality. In addition to clerical duties, the Unit Secretary/Coordinator is expected to provide input to the charge nurse or clinical leader regarding unit staffing processes and to manage unit supplies within budgetary constraints. The role also involves preparing and maintaining charts for all patients, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. The Unit Secretary/Coordinator must maintain a safe and orderly work environment, adhering to the standards of service excellence set by the organization. This position requires a high level of organization and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. The Unit Secretary/Coordinator must also be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all healthcare team members and patients, contributing to a collaborative and supportive environment. The role may involve performing other duties as assigned, and it is essential to fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and performs clerical needs of the unit & unit management in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent & continuous manner.
  • Answers phones, call bell and interacts with visitors, patients & staff members in an efficient & courteous manner.
  • Provides input to charge nurse/clinical leader/manager with unit staffing process.
  • Organizes and maintains patient records.
  • Manages and maintains various unit supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Prepares and maintains charts for all patients ensuring confidentiality for patients & their families at all times.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
  • Formulates and uses effective working relationships with all health care team members & patients.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Follows WCHN standards of service excellence.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent education required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively is required.
  • Minimum of six months of relevant experience is required.
