About the position

The Unit Secretary in Nursing provides essential clerical and administrative support to a nursing care unit, ensuring efficient operations and communication among staff, physicians, and healthcare providers. This role involves executing various clerical duties, prioritizing information requests, and adhering to regulations to maintain patient privacy and safety. The Unit Secretary may also assist in orienting new staff members to the department or unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine and specialized clerical and administrative duties in support of the nursing care unit.
  • Execute a variety of clerical duties and prioritize information and requests in a timely manner.
  • Build collaborative relationships with staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding patient privacy and safety.
  • Orient new staff to the department/unit as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic health records (EHR), specifically EPIC.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hospital or clinical environment.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
