About the position

The Nursing Unit Secretary (NUS) at the Pakula Center for Infant Specialty Care is responsible for establishing a positive and welcoming presence on the unit. This role involves performing clerical and receptionist duties in an organized, efficient, and customer-friendly manner, ensuring smooth operations within the nursing unit while maintaining patient privacy and compliance with hospital policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical and receptionist duties in an organized and efficient manner.
• Transcribe medical orders and enter patient charges accurately and timely.
• Greet visitors and answer phones and call lights promptly and courteously.
• Organize and maintain a clean and well-organized environment.
• Ensure all components of patient records are properly identified and maintained.
• Participate in performance improvement activities with a focus on safety and customer service.
• Enter admissions, discharges, and bed transfers, and label patient charts and chart racks.
• Order supplies, formula, and equipment, and complete patient transport logs.
• Schedule patient clinic appointments and arrange transportation and escorts as per policy.
• Notify radiology and lab of tests ordered and coordinate offsite lab sample pickups.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of experience as a Unit Clerk/Receptionist/Secretary or Nursing Assistant in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
• Experience in a busy customer service-related position required.
• Excellent customer service skills and effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
• Detail-oriented with excellent time management and follow-up skills.
• Computer proficiency and knowledge of the billing process.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with entering billing charges desirable.
