The Unit Secretary/Registrar plays a crucial role in the Emergency Department at Goshen Health, providing essential secretarial and receptionist support. This position involves a variety of administrative tasks that are vital for the smooth operation of the department. The Unit Secretary/Registrar is responsible for managing patient information, coordinating communication between medical staff and patients, and ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and efficiently. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Unit Secretary/Registrar will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned, which may include assisting with patient admissions, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records. The position demands effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong customer service abilities to interact positively with patients and their families. The Unit Secretary/Registrar must also be proficient in computer keyboard skills and have a basic understanding of medical terminology, which is essential for accurately processing patient information and facilitating communication within the healthcare team. The work schedule for this position is full-time, primarily during the day shift, with hours from 0500 to 1730. The Unit Secretary/Registrar will be required to work on weekends as needed, participate in a rotating holiday schedule, and adapt to varying weekday shifts. This role is integral to the functioning of the Emergency Department, ensuring that all administrative tasks are handled efficiently to support patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform secretarial and receptionist duties for the department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a medical terminology course within the first year of employment.
  • Six months of secretarial, receptionist, or clerical experience preferred.
