About the position

The Unit Secretary at SCI Craig Hospital provides essential organizational, receptionist, and clerical support within patient care areas. This role involves responding to various alarm systems and effectively communicating information to patients, visitors, and medical staff. The position is crucial for maintaining efficient operations and ensuring high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Serve as unit receptionist, greeting individuals and handling incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
• Relay pertinent information to appropriate person(s) while maintaining patient and employee confidentiality.
• Provide excellent customer service to both external and internal customers in person and on the telephone.
• Provide clerical support to nursing, including preparing and maintaining patient medical records and transcribing provider orders accurately.
• Answer patient call lights promptly and courteously, referring urgent requests to RN immediately.
• Demonstrate knowledge in ordering and retrieving lab and radiology data.
• Order and maintain supplies in various unit locations as directed.
• Maintain the patient census, accounting for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Educate and train new employees in appropriate clerical and transcription duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or equivalent required.
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
• 1-2 years of experience in a patient care setting required.
• 1-2 years of Unit Secretary experience preferred.
• Experience with telemetry systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology and strong computer skills are essential.
• Ability to communicate calmly and clearly while demonstrating patience and tact.
