About the position

As a Unit Secretary at Select Specialty Hospital, you will play a crucial role in supporting the clinical team and ensuring the smooth operation of the patient care unit. This position is PRN (as needed) and involves working 12-hour shifts during the day. You will be responsible for providing clerical services that are essential for the effective functioning of the unit, which includes the care of critically ill or post-ICU patients. Your duties will encompass a variety of tasks that require attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. In this dynamic environment, you will utilize your independent judgment to manage clerical responsibilities such as the accurate transcription of medical orders, filing reports, and coordinating transportation for patients requiring tests outside the hospital. You will also be responsible for maintaining communication with the Charge Nurse and House Supervisor, ensuring that all necessary paperwork is handled promptly and efficiently. Your role will be pivotal in ordering supplies and verifying physician privileges before transcribing orders, which is essential for maintaining the integrity of patient care. Responsibilities

  • Deliver superior quality in all tasks performed.
  • Provide clerical services to the patient care units, including transcription of orders and filing of reports.
  • Arrange for transportation and follow-up/outside tests for patients.
  • Answer telephone calls and deliver messages accurately.
  • Maintain close communication with the Charge Nurse and House Supervisor.
  • Handle all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Order supplies from Materials Management as needed.
  • Verify physician privileges prior to transcribing orders.
  • Transcribe and flag orders from patient charts appropriately.
  • Arrange for transport of patients for tests not offered in the hospital.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology to read and update patient charts.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Customer-service oriented with a focus on teamwork.
  • Ability to use independent judgment in clerical tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a critical care or recovery environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
