About the position

Signature Healthcare's Brockton Hospital is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Unit Secretary for a part-time flex position. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the unit, providing support to healthcare professionals, and enhancing the patient experience. The Unit Secretary will work in a modern healthcare facility that has recently undergone extensive renovations, equipping it with advanced infrastructure to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community. The position requires a commitment to superior patient care and safety, reflecting the hospital's mission to deliver personalized healthcare services in a welcoming environment. As a Unit Secretary, you will be responsible for understanding the needs of customers and providing accurate information while resolving problems that require logical thinking and follow-through. The role demands the ability to function calmly and logically under tense situations, manage difficult patients, and deal with a variety of unique situations where limited standardization may exist. You will interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and use appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, and other associates. The position also emphasizes the importance of interpersonal skills, as you will interact with associates, clients, and patients in a fast-paced environment. Respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees are paramount to ensure a professional and courteous environment. The Unit Secretary will also commit to recognizing and respecting cultural diversity among all customers, utilizing interpreters when necessary to communicate effectively across different cultures, values, beliefs, and ages. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the unit's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the customer's needs and provide correct information while resolving problems requiring logical thinking and follow-through.
  • Function calmly and logically under tense and difficult situations.
  • Manage difficult patients and deal with a variety of unique situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Use appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, and other associates.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills to work in a fast-paced environment involving interaction with associates, clients, and patients.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Commit to recognizing and respecting cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, utilizing interpreters when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous health care experience desirable.
  • Familiarity with CRT functioning highly preferred.
  • Previous secretarial or computer experience desired, preferably in a health-related field.
  • Medical secretarial or computer-related courses preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Meditech, IDX, and AllScripts preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare operations.
