About the position

The Unit Service Technician plays a crucial role in the Emergency Department by providing a variety of patient care services and administrative support under the supervision of licensed nurses. This position involves direct patient interaction, performing essential tasks such as EKGs, phlebotomy, and ensuring the cleanliness and readiness of equipment and rooms. The technician also handles secretarial duties, patient transportation, and supports the Patient and Family Centered Care Model, ensuring a high standard of care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a broad range of care and services to patients, including EKG and phlebotomy.
  • Clean and stock equipment and rooms under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Perform secretarial duties such as organizing paperwork, answering phones, and paging.
  • Receive Emergency Department patients into the medi-tech computer system.
  • Transport patients safely throughout the hospital.
  • Perform 1:1 sitting when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, or current Nursing Student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent med/surgical clinical rotation.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required.
  • Current Patient Care Assistant Certificate or EMT license required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a medical technician or patient care assistant in an Emergency setting.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, physically taxing environment.
  • Successful completion of an approved nursing assistant training program.
