About the position

The Unit Service Technician in the Emergency Department provides essential care and services to patients, including EKG, phlebotomy, and equipment cleaning, under the supervision of a licensed nurse. This part-time role involves performing secretarial duties, ensuring patient safety during transportation, and supporting the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a broad range of care and services to patients, including EKG and phlebotomy.
  • Clean and stock equipment and rooms under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Perform secretarial duties such as organizing paperwork, answering phones, and receiving patients into the medi-tech system.
  • Ensure safe and accurate transportation of patients throughout the hospital.
  • Perform 1:1 sitting when necessary.
  • Support the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, or current Nursing Student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent med/surgical clinical rotation.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required.
  • Current Patient Care Assistant Certificate or EMT license required.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, physically taxing environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a medical technician or patient care assistant in an Emergency setting.
  • Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations.
