About the position

The Senior Research Associate in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is responsible for developing clinical decision support tools, analyzing medical literature, and collaborating with research partners. This role involves significant research project conceptualization, data analysis, and publication efforts, contributing to advancements in cancer risk assessment and management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a knowledge base for a clinical decision support tool related to family history and cancer risk factors.
  • Utilize natural language processing tools to extract and analyze information from medical literature, converting data into understandable cancer risk curves.
  • Assist the principal investigator in conceptualizing research projects, performing analyses, summarizing findings, and preparing manuscripts for publication.
  • Implement a variant harmonization tool to identify and harmonize discordant variant classifications related to cancer susceptibility genes.
  • Collaborate with research partners at institutions such as MIT and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in clinical research, epidemiology, biostatistics, informatics, or a related field.
  • Three years of related experience in research or a similar role.
