About the position

The Universal Operations Specialist I position at Columbia Bank is a full-time role based in Franklin Lakes, NJ, where the individual will supervise teller operations and play a crucial role in the training of Universal Bankers. This position involves overseeing the daily consolidation of teller proof sheets, maintaining security for the teller area, and managing the opening and closing of the vault and its contents. The specialist will assist in achieving branch goals and ensuring that all teller operations run smoothly and efficiently. In this role, the specialist will be responsible for scheduling work assignments for teller personnel and participating in performance appraisals. They will ensure the daily consolidation of teller sheets, addressing any discrepancies or issues that arise in the teller area. Security is a significant aspect of this position, as the specialist will maintain the security of negotiable items and oversee transactions on selected deposit accounts, including verifying signatures and endorsements on withdrawals that exceed teller limits. The specialist will also handle uncollected and overdraft accounts, research items and accounts, and determine the necessary actions to resolve issues. They will perform all teller activities as required and assist in the new accounts area when necessary. The role may also involve processing business account transactions and night drops, along with other job-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises teller operations including direct responsibility for the teller portion of Universal Banking training.
  • Schedules hours and work assignments for all teller personnel.
  • Participates in performance appraisals for teller staff.
  • Ensures daily consolidation of teller sheets including all categories listed on office consolidation.
  • Researches and resolves any problems pertaining to the teller area.
  • Maintains the security of the teller area, negotiable items, and the opening and closing of the vault and contents.
  • Assists in the overall security of the branch.
  • Approves transactions on selected deposit accounts, including verification of signatures and endorsements on all withdrawals exceeding teller limits.
  • Processes return items and items sent and received for collection.
  • Handles uncollected and overdrafts for the branch if assigned and within approved limits.
  • Researches item and account to determine action to be taken.
  • Performs all teller activities outlined for the Universal Banker position as required.
  • Assists in the new accounts area when necessary.
  • Handles adjustments to accounts and certificates.
  • Processes business account transactions and night drops when applicable.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of teller, platform, and supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or higher.
  • Strong knowledge of banking products.
  • Sound judgment in decision making and problem solving.
  • Precise figure aptitude and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong PC skills and demonstrated knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to ask questions to learn about customer's financial needs and introduce them to other bank team members when appropriate.
  • Ability to work with manager to increase customer advocacy effectiveness through feedback and coaching.
  • Ability to supervise/lead the Teller line and coach and mentor as needed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed or scheduled.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
