About the position

The Universal Operations Specialist I at Columbia Bank is a pivotal role that supervises teller operations, ensuring adherence to cash limits and providing coaching and reporting to team members. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily consolidation of teller proof sheets, maintaining security in the teller area, and managing the vault and its contents. The specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the branch in achieving its goals by ensuring that all cash handling procedures are followed meticulously. This includes providing and maintaining the overall cash for the vault and teller unit, ensuring compliance with bank policies and procedures, and performing various reporting tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. In addition to cash management, the Universal Operations Specialist I is tasked with approving deposit and withdrawal transactions, verifying signatures and endorsements, and applying the appropriate cash and check handling levels of authority. The role also involves monitoring salesforce cases related to the processing of returned items and making decisions on uncollected and overdrafts as assigned, all while adhering to approved lending authority limits. The specialist will also perform all teller activities as required, demonstrating proficiency in opening both consumer and business accounts, and coaching team members on policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all bank regulations. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, as the specialist must be able to ask questions to understand customers' financial needs and introduce them to other bank team members when appropriate. The role demands a collaborative spirit, as the specialist will work closely with the branch manager to enhance customer advocacy effectiveness through feedback and coaching. The ability to stand for extended periods and work weekends as needed is also essential for this position. Columbia Bank is committed to providing comprehensive training to help new hires excel in their roles, with a robust onboarding and orientation process that includes 10 business days of training for Universal Banker positions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise teller operations, ensuring adherence to cash limits and providing coaching and reporting.
  • Oversee daily consolidation of teller proof sheets and maintain security for the teller area.
  • Manage the vault and its contents, ensuring compliance with bank policies and procedures.
  • Provide and maintain the overall cash for the vault and teller unit, shipping or ordering cash as needed.
  • Assist with the completion of the branch manager's monthly procedural review and responsible for monthly cash counts.
  • Research and resolve any problems pertaining to the teller area; perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports digitally.
  • Approve deposit and withdrawal transactions, verifying signatures and endorsements, and applying cash & check handling levels of authority.
  • Monitor salesforce cases for processing returned items, making decisions on uncollected and overdrafts as assigned.
  • Perform all teller activities outlined for the Universal Banker position as required.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in opening both consumer and business accounts; coach team members on policy and procedure compliance.
  • Assist in reaching all goals set for the branch and handle adjustments to accounts and certificates.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of teller, platform, and supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or higher.
  • Strong knowledge of banking products and sound judgment in decision making and problem solving.
  • Precise figure aptitude and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong PC skills and demonstrated knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to ask questions to learn about customer's financial needs and introduce them to other bank team members.
  • Ability to work with manager to increase customer advocacy effectiveness through feedback and coaching.
  • Ability to supervise/lead the Teller line and coach and mentor as needed.
  • Independent and highly motivated self-starter with a results-oriented mindset.
