About the position

Loyola University Chicago seeks applications for the position of Digital Services Librarian, a non-tenure track faculty role within the University Libraries. This position is pivotal in overseeing the digital services of the library, which includes managing the library's web presence, library management and discovery systems, and the institutional repository. The Digital Services Librarian will report directly to the Head of Library Systems and will play a crucial role in supporting digital scholarship and open access initiatives. This role also involves providing technical support for digital special collections, electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), and other digital materials, both born-digital and retrospectively digitized. The Digital Services Librarian will lead the development and enhancement of digital library systems and applications to ensure effective delivery of library digital resources and services. This includes designing and developing the University Libraries' web presence, which serves as the central access point for library digital content and services. The librarian will also manage the administration of Loyola eCommons, the university's institutional repository, and collaborate with other stakeholders to develop user-centered digital services. Additionally, the position requires providing technology support for library digital resources and services, troubleshooting electronic resource access issues, and staying current with trends in web and digital library technologies. In this role, the librarian will supervise graduate student assistants as needed and may provide research support and instruction for no more than three hours per week. Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and enhancement of digital library systems, platforms, and applications.
  • Design and develop the University Libraries web presence for access to digital content and services.
  • Manage the administration of Loyola eCommons, the university's institutional repository.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop user-centered digital services.
  • Provide technology support for library digital resources, services, and platforms.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot electronic resource access issues.
  • Stay current with trends in web and digital library technologies.
  • Supervise graduate student assistants as needed.
  • Provide research support and instruction, as needed (no more than 3 hours per week).

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program, or a graduate degree or professional certification in a related field, combined with relevant library experience.
  • Two or more years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an academic library.
  • Experience or interest in applying principles of user experience design and digital accessibility.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging technologies in digital and web-based library services.
  • Demonstrated skill with technologies used in current library systems, such as HTML/CSS/Javascript, XML/XSLT, Python, PHP, Java/Tomcat, Apache Web Server, MySQL.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with version management code repositories such as Github, Gitlab, or Bitbucket.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to effectively determine the root cause of issues and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning.

  • Experience with administration of content management systems such as Drupal, Omeka, or WordPress.
  • Experience with administration of Ex Libris library systems products such as Alma/Primo.
