About the position

BearCom is seeking an Upfit Lead Technician to oversee a team of installation technicians responsible for modifying Public Safety vehicles. This role involves both leadership and hands-on installation work, ensuring high-quality production and efficiency within the shop. The technician will be responsible for training team members, managing the installation process, and maintaining safety and productivity standards.

Responsibilities

  • Training Up-fit Installation Technicians in designated lines.
  • Oversee production and installation process within the assigned shop production line.
  • Returning parts carts and unused parts to the warehouse/parts department and reviewing inventory-related matters once vehicle installation is complete.
  • Inspect workmanship and quality control across various production stages.
  • Managing shop lines and maintaining a high level of productivity and efficiency.
  • Keeping installation technicians busy and productive.
  • Perform Installation of Emergency Warning Equipment and complete knowledge of build process.
  • Provide feedback on build-books, to pre-build and to the fab shop; to help improve productivity and quality.
  • Notify management of personnel issues.
  • Notify management of safety issues.
  • Notify management if special tools, training or support are needed.
  • Dismantle the interior and exterior of new vehicles and install various equipment including vehicle lighting, controls, sirens, radios, and more.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, orderly work area (entire shop line).
  • Keep tools organized.
  • Ability to assign tasks and work with a Team.

Requirements

  • Mid-level leadership experience in a technical or installation environment.
  • Experience with vehicle modifications and installations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical wiring and vehicle systems.
  • Ability to train and manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with emergency vehicle equipment installation.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control processes.
