About the position

As an Upholstery Fabricator at Constant Aviation, you will play a crucial role in the aircraft upholstery process, ensuring that all fabric-related requirements are met with precision and adherence to industry standards. This position involves a variety of tasks, including pattern making, sewing, and foam fabrication, all of which are essential for the completion of high-quality upholstery work on aircraft interiors. You will be responsible for interpreting blueprints and completion drawings, as well as following company standards and work instructions to deliver exceptional results. Your expertise will be vital in performing sewing and upholstery operations in compliance with applicable FAA regulations, ensuring safety and quality in every project. In this role, you will also disassemble and reassemble vendor passenger seats and divans, following the guidelines outlined in vendor component maintenance manuals. Proper maintenance practices are critical, and you will be expected to apply adhesives correctly, bond materials effectively, and install hardware and rivets according to Constant Aviation standards. Your ability to handle and use the necessary tools and chemicals safely will be paramount, as you will be working with various materials and adhesives that require careful handling and knowledge of safety protocols. The position requires a strong attention to detail, as you will need to perform calculations using shop math to ensure that all tooling and parts are accurately prepared for assembly. You will also need to demonstrate visual capacity and muscular dexterity to work on fine details of high-cost products, minimizing the need for rework. This role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift and transport materials, work in confined spaces, and wear protective equipment for extended periods. Responsibilities

  • Perform all aircraft upholstery requirements such as pattern making, sewing, foam fabrication, and application on all components.
  • Interpret blueprints, completion drawings, company standards, and work instructions.
  • Perform necessary calculations using shop math based on required tooling, detailed parts, assemblies, and installations.
  • Perform sewing and upholstery operations in accordance with applicable FAA regulations.
  • Disassemble and reassemble vendor passenger seats and divans in accordance with the guidelines of vendor component maintenance manuals.
  • Perform proper maintenance practices in accordance with Constant Aviation standards, including proper glue application, adhesive bonding, hardware, and rivet installation.
  • Correctly handle and use all required tools specific to the current job assignment.
  • Correctly handle and use all required chemicals and adhesives related to the current job assignment, including general knowledge and ability to retrieve data from the MSDS safety books.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of five (5) years aircraft upholstery experience
  • Able to set up and operate all standard equipment related to upholstery
  • Able to work from documentation such as 3D models, blueprints, drawings, aircraft specifications, preparation packages, etc.
  • Must not be allergic to chemicals, solvents, paints, adhesives, natural or manmade materials, fabrics, or feathers
  • Able to distinguish colors and align intricate or elaborate designs in fabrics
  • Able to lift and transport up to 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Visual capacity and muscular dexterity to work on fine detail, high cost products with a minimum of rework
  • Able to wear protective equipment for extended periods of time including particle masks, goggles, assorted gloves, head bonnets, and disposable protective suits
  • Able to stock and remove materials from bins above storage level (not exceeding OSHA standards)
  • Able to climb in and out of aircraft and perform work in tight or confined places and unusual positions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to work in confined spaces and in unusual positions, i.e. various aircraft
  • Able to setup and operate all standard equipment related to upholstery
