About the position

Abington Friends School is seeking a passionate and dynamic Upper School French Teacher for a maternity leave position. This temporary, full-time role involves teaching French to upper school students, fostering an immersive language learning environment, and engaging students in meaningful cultural experiences. The position is expected to last approximately 6 weeks, starting on January 6, 2025.

Responsibilities

• Teach four classes (French 2, French 2 Honors, French 3, and French 3 Honors)
• Create and implement engaging French language lesson plans for upper school students
• Lead classroom activities that promote language acquisition and cultural awareness
• Maintain an immersive classroom environment where students are encouraged to communicate primarily in French
• Assess and track student progress, providing feedback to support growth in language proficiency
• Communicate with parents as needed and with the support of the department
• Collaborate with colleagues and participate in school activities as needed
• Support the 10th grade team during class meetings and advisory activities

Requirements

• Experience as a classroom teacher, preferably at the upper school level
• Proficiency in French, with a deep understanding of language instruction and pedagogy
• Ability to create a positive, student-centered learning environment
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt lesson plans as needed
• Enthusiasm for promoting language learning and cultural exploration
