About the position

The Upward Bound Project Coordinator at East Central University is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and providing essential services to low-income and first-generation high school students across a six-county area. This role aims to enhance the academic and personal development of participants, ensuring they are well-prepared for postsecondary education. The coordinator will work closely with educational institutions and service agencies to promote successful outcomes for students.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize target school's faculty and administrators with project goals.
• Establish working relationships with service agencies in the target area.
• Identify and select eligible participants for the project's services.
• Counsel participants regarding their educational goals.
• Provide career and institutional information tailored to individual needs.
• Encourage students to complete secondary school using motivational techniques.
• Organize institutional visits and career days for participants.
• Assist participants in gaining admission to postsecondary institutions.
• Disseminate financial information and help participants secure financial aid.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Education, Human Resources, or a related field.
• High degree of professionalism and adherence to professional ethics.
• Knowledge of academic resources and educational/financial aid strategies.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Teaching experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• Prior TRIO experience is preferred.
