About the position

The Urban Resilience Director at Los Angeles Waterkeeper will lead initiatives focused on enhancing urban resilience and equity through integrated planning and green infrastructure. This senior-level role involves managing campaigns, collaborating with decision-makers, and advocating for climate-resilient infrastructure in the Los Angeles region. The position requires strong project management and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to promoting community-driven, multi-benefit projects that address climate change challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead LAW's Infrastructure Justice Los Angeles (IJLA) campaign, overseeing a coalition and advocacy efforts for integrated housing, transportation, greenspace, and water resiliency projects.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to promote greening of the LA River and support floodplain reclamation policies and projects.
  • Support efforts around the Safe Clean Water Program (SCWP) and ensure integration with IJLA and LA River work.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, state, and federal officials critical for resilience work.
  • Engage with media, partners, and the public to promote resilient water supplies and prioritize equity in planning and implementation.
  • Represent LAW on resilient infrastructure design and implementation working groups as needed.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including grant writing and reporting, for LAW's resilience initiatives.
  • Develop annual departmental budgets and workplans, and supervise at least two staff members.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in environmental policy, urban planning, or related field.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in nature-based infrastructure design and watershed planning.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of the Los Angeles region and its political landscape.
  • Experience building and managing broad-based campaigns, including coalition building and advocacy.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with GIS and Adobe Suite preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Experience working with philanthropy and managing grants.
