About the position
The Urban Resilience Director at Los Angeles Waterkeeper will lead initiatives focused on enhancing urban resilience and equity through integrated planning and green infrastructure. This senior-level role involves managing campaigns, collaborating with decision-makers, and advocating for climate-resilient infrastructure in the Los Angeles region. The position requires strong project management and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to promoting community-driven, multi-benefit projects that address climate change challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead LAW's Infrastructure Justice Los Angeles (IJLA) campaign, overseeing a coalition and advocacy efforts for integrated housing, transportation, greenspace, and water resiliency projects.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to promote greening of the LA River and support floodplain reclamation policies and projects.
- Support efforts around the Safe Clean Water Program (SCWP) and ensure integration with IJLA and LA River work.
- Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, state, and federal officials critical for resilience work.
- Engage with media, partners, and the public to promote resilient water supplies and prioritize equity in planning and implementation.
- Represent LAW on resilient infrastructure design and implementation working groups as needed.
- Support fundraising efforts, including grant writing and reporting, for LAW's resilience initiatives.
- Develop annual departmental budgets and workplans, and supervise at least two staff members.
Requirements
- Master's degree in environmental policy, urban planning, or related field.
- 10 years of progressively responsible experience in nature-based infrastructure design and watershed planning.
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of the Los Angeles region and its political landscape.
- Experience building and managing broad-based campaigns, including coalition building and advocacy.
- Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with GIS and Adobe Suite preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
